The Börger RC separator: a simple design
The Bioselect RC separator is designed to separate the solid and liquid phases.
The Bioselect RC separator is fitted with a rotating closing disc. The unit is available in both standard and automatic versions. The degree of separation can be adjusted steplessly by means of a spring. The compressed solids press against the closing disc and shift it, opening a gap at the bottom. The separated, compressed solids fall through the gap that appears. The patented Bioselect technology needs no holding or intermediate tanks.
The Bioselect RC separator has a capacity of up to 150 m³/h.

Operating principle
The medium to be separated is fed through the inlet port (1) into the Bioselect working chamber. The outer cylinder is separated from the screw (3) by a circumferentially sealed screen (2). The screw is connected to the drive. The medium enters the screen chamber from the drive side. The liquid phase passes through the screen (2) into the outer chamber. The liquid then flows out through the outlet port (4).
The solid phase remains on the surface of the screen. It is pressed through and conveyed along the press channel by the rotating screw (3). Further, more powerful pressing takes place in the press channel (5). The rotating screw is fitted with a sealing disc (6) (Multi Disk) that can move axially. An adjusting device (7) pushes the Multi Disc towards the screw and thereby forms a plug of solid phase. When the pressure of the plug exceeds the spring force of the Easy Shift device (7), a gap opens for the solid phase to be discharged. A knife scraper is used to remove the solid phase.
Multi Disk technology (6) makes it impossible for the liquid phase to pass. The Multi Disc (6) seals the press channel (5) until the required moisture level is reached. Only then does the gap open and the solid phase is released: an absolutely precise technology.
Screw with a profiled groove
Fibres enter and remain in the profiled groove of the screw (3). These fibres act as a sealing brush. This avoids metal-to-metal contact between the screw and the screen (2). This unique technology increases the service life of the screen (2) and the screw many times over. On top of that, this «brush» cleans the screen very thoroughly. There is no need for additional manual cleaning.
Easy Shift technology
The solids content can be changed continuously with the Easy Shift device (7). Automatic (pneumatic) control of the solids content via a control unit is also available.

Connection options
The Bioselect separator can easily be controlled by the Börger control system, which coordinates the feed pump and the separator perfectly. As a result the separator always runs at optimum capacity and achieves the best results.
Classic application
A pump feeds the medium into the Bioselect.
The control system regulates the pump speed, and therefore the amount of medium fed, according to the load on the Bioselect separator. The liquid flows away through the pipework without pressure.

Separator
The operator of a biogas plant wanted to use an efficient separator. The solids content in the primary and secondary bioreactors was very high. A separator was needed to remove the solids.
The customer chose the Börger Bioselect RC 40, having already had good experience with other Börger products and having heard about how effectively the Bioselect works. A Börger PL200 rotary lobe pump transferred the substrate from the bioreactor to the Bioselect. The control system continuously regulated the optimum load on the separator. The Bioselect separated the solid and liquid phases. The solids were removed from the process and the liquid was returned to the bioreactor in stages.
The customer is satisfied with the reliable Börger Bioselect separator. The choice was guided by ease of operation and the ability to set the solids concentration.

Separating particles from wash water
A plastics recycling company producing polypropylene granules from recycled plastic uses two Börger Bioselect RC 75 separators in its production. They separate plastic residues from the wash water. Reducing the water content saves a great deal of energy in the recycling process.
Before the Börger separators were supplied, the plant had already tested several machines. The Bioselect separator reduced the residual water content to below 20%, whereas 50% residual water was observed after separation with other units.
Two Bioselect RC 75 separators are integrated into the process. Because of the way the process works, the rate at which liquid is fed into the Bioselect cannot be regulated. The control system automatically adapts the separator speed to the volume and concentration of solids in the flow. In this way both separators run at maximum capacity.
The staff at the plastics recycling plant are pleased with the Bioselect units because of their energy efficiency. The customer is impressed by the high degree of dewatering and the long service life of the separators.

Separating cattle manure
Short of straw, the owner of a dairy farm was looking at bedding options for 240 cows. For economic reasons he did not choose expensive wood shavings but decided on a separator.
He installed a Bioselect RC 40 separator with a Börger control system and a BLUEline rotary lobe pump. The control system coordinates the feed pump, the liquid phase pump and the separator. Automatic separation at a chosen time can also be selected.
The solids concentration can easily be adjusted during operation. The customer therefore selects a high solids content (>30 %) for bedding and a low solids content (about 22%) when delivering the solid phase to a biogas plant, saving up to 25% of storage volume in the process.
Using the solid phase as bedding is a good solution. The soft material is comfortable for the cows and the bacterial count stays low. The customer is very satisfied with the Bioselect separator.

Mobile Bioselect RC 150 separator
An agricultural company uses a trailer-mounted Bioselect RC 150 separator to separate liquid manure and digestate. The screw separator delivers up to 150 m³/h and a Börger rotary lobe pump feeds the medium straight into the Bioselect without an intermediate tank. The Börger control system constantly measures the load on the separator and automatically adjusts the amount of medium fed, keeping the separator running at maximum capacity.
To protect the pump and separator from contamination, the feed pump passes the medium through a Börger Rotorrake grinder. The macerator grinds up balls of fibre, while solids such as stones fall into the stone trap. This ensures a long service life for both pump and separator.
The power required is supplied by an 88 kW generator. A 10-metre extendable belt conveyor moves the separated solid phase to where it is needed. The solids content can be set between 18 and 38 % via the control system. The liquid phase is delivered straight to the storage tank by a Börger rotary lobe pump in a closed system.
