The Multichopper — is a grinder with a central perforated disc and an effective blade cutter. It is used to grind solids in liquid media.
The Multichopper wins people over with the finesse and precision of its engineering. The contact pressure of the blade mounted on the axis is adjusted by a special external automatic contact-pressure unit. The blade presses against the perforated disc, which can be used on both sides.
The flow direction of the processed medium is reversible.
There are two versions: Multichopper plus and Multichopper pure. The Multichopper plus has a collection chamber for grit. The Multichopper pure has none and contains no features where sediment could build up.
The range includes various sizes of both types with capacities up to 400 m3/h.
Components of the Multichopper

Operating principle
Reversible flow direction
The Börger Multichopper is a grinder with a perforated disc fitted with a rotating blade on the inlet side. It is designed to process solids in liquid media. The grinding result depends on the type of perforated disc, the volume of medium processed and the blade speed.
The liquid to be processed is fed to the grinder by a pump or by gravity where there is sufficient inlet pressure. Passing through the Multichopper it flows through the perforated disc. The blade rotating against the perforated disc makes several cutting movements per revolution, which ensures reliable, uninterrupted grinding of solids. The pressure of the rotating blade against the perforated disc is set by an external central adjusting bolt.

The flow of the processed medium is reversible.

Flotation
Flotation
A timber supplier discharges many hundreds of cubic metres of process wastewater every day. This wastewater is treated at the plant's own treatment works. Part of these works is a flotation unit in which contaminants are separated by dissolved-air flotation. The customer used a multistage centrifugal pump to feed the flotation unit. Solids kept settling in the narrow clearances of the pump, causing it to fail. The Multichopper grinds the medium finely enough that pumping is no longer a problem.

Grinding food waste
Grinding food waste
Spoiled foodstuffs — used frying oil, food waste, out-of-date products and so on — can serve as renewable energy sources. At biogas plants they are used to produce environmentally friendly energy carriers such as biodiesel or biogas, which later generate heat or electricity.
First the food waste is coarsely ground in a hammer mill. Then, before the material is fed into a centrifugal separator, it is processed by a Multichopper plus. The Multichopper plus is fitted with an automatic contact-pressure device that maintains the best cutting performance for as long as possible. The customer is very satisfied with the grinder's performance. Thanks to the good grinding effect of the Multichopper plus, separation efficiency has increased.

Wheat starch concentrate
Wheat starch concentrate
Cattle are often fed wheat starch concentrate. To raise the protein content, waste from a bakery plant — including whole wafers and toasted wheat bases — is added to the starch.
First, for coarse processing, the starch with the bases is fed by screw conveyor into a Multicrusher. Then a Multichopper plus is used for finer grinding. The processed medium is moved from one grinder to the other by a Börger rotary lobe pump. The speed and capacity of all the Börger units are regulated by a single control system.
For the customer, the choice of equipment came down not only to capacity and an excellent grinding effect but also to how easy Börger units are to service. The rotary lobe pump and the Multicrusher and Multichopper grinders are designed (MIP — Maintenance in Place) so that, by undoing a few bolts, the feed mill's own staff can service the equipment without removing it from the pipework.

Raw material for cosmetics production
Raw material for cosmetics production
An international producer of flavourings, oils and raw materials for cosmetics needed a grinder to process vegetables.
To make flavour and cosmetic fillers, dietary supplements and active ingredients, the customer uses leeks, onion bulbs, vanilla pods and so on.
The customer needed a grinder for the further processing of raw material that had already been pre-treated and diluted with water. The main requirements were the absence of dead zones and a stainless steel construction. The decision was taken to buy a Multichopper pure. To guarantee staff safety during maintenance, a sensor was fitted that prevents the grinder from starting while the quick-release cover is open.
