The Bioselect RC is a Börger separator that splits liquid substrate into solid and liquid fractions. It is used at the digester outlet of a biogas plant, at livestock farms and at treatment works where the volume of sludge has to be reduced and a transportable solid fraction obtained.
Why separate the phases
Liquid substrate after digestion takes up a large volume, but most of it is water. Storing and hauling such material is expensive: large lagoons are needed, and transport effectively means hauling water.
Separation produces two products with different uses:
- Solid fraction — around 65–75% moisture, stackable, suitable for transport and further use as organic fertiliser or bedding material.
- Liquid fraction — used for irrigation, returned to the digester as recirculate, or sent for further treatment.
Multi Disk technology
At the heart of the Bioselect RC is the Multi Disk multi-disc filtration system. Unlike screw separators with a single filter element, a pack of discs is used here, which increases the total filtration area within a compact housing.
The practical result is high throughput in a small footprint and less tendency to clog: the load is spread across all the discs rather than concentrated on one element.
Easy Shift adjustment
The Easy Shift mechanism allows the degree of pressing to be changed without stopping or dismantling the equipment. The operator adjusts the moisture of the solid fraction while the unit is running.
This matters when the incoming feedstock changes — for example when switching to a different substrate or when moisture varies with the season. Without such adjustment the line would have to be stopped and the separator reset mechanically.
Technical specifications
| Capacity | up to 150 m³/h |
| Filtration system | Multi Disk (multi-disc) |
| Pressing adjustment | Easy Shift, without stopping the equipment |
| Moisture of the solid fraction | adjustable, approximately 65–75% |
Actual capacity depends on the dry matter content of the incoming substrate and the degree of pressing required.
Where it is used
- Biogas plants — separating digested substrate, returning the liquid fraction to the process as recirculate
- Livestock farms — processing manure effluent, reducing storage volume
- Treatment works — dewatering sludge before haulage
- Food production — treating effluent with a high organic content
Economic effect
The main savings come from three sources: less storage volume is needed, transport costs fall because only the solid fraction is hauled, and the liquid fraction is returned to the process instead of being disposed of. In addition, the solid fraction can be used as fertiliser or sold.
